“The Art of Nurture”

Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance Student Illustration Competition 2008 – 2009.

Once again, this year were asked to provide up to two pieces of visual art that would support and illustration one of the following themes:

1)Leading the way

2)Working together

3)Specialist

4)Innovation/ Originality

5)Flexibility

6)Getting the best results

7)Integrated solutions

8)International relationship

9)Sustainable relationship

10)Expansion

11)Geography

12)2012 Olympics

13)Industry sector specialisation

This time I have chosen the theme “Leading the way” as my first image.

The protagonist in the image represents the customer while the complex structure represents the bank.

The structure symbolises the bank as a sophisticated organisation, aiming to aid their clients, with different backgrounds for their needs. Different architecture symbolising different international expertise. Different parts of engines and paddles from vehicles representing the back driving their clients to a positive future. Red is used as the main colour, as red symbolises good fortune in China, where I am from, giving it a stronger sense of cultural identity.

This illustration came SECOND in the NATIONAL FINAL of the competition.

The Second image is based on the theme “Working together”.

I have based my image on the famous painting, Babel Tower. Working together to reach heaven represents the theme perfectly, and therefore I have created my own version of it.

A project set by “Puffinpost”, a children magazine, to produce a cover image for its latest issue.

I was asked to produce my own version of a puffin, which can attracts kids aged between 8~ 14 yrs old. I realised children in this age group are very imaginative and they love visual stimulation, from that I have created the following illustrations.

First one was chosen as the cover image of the March 2009 issue.

I decided to concentrate of two of them, which were “Innovation/ Originality” and “Flexibility”.

I illustrated a person with a power station rising up from his head representing generation of ideas as my piece for “Innovation/ Originality”.  My second illustration, “Flexibility” was illustrated as a flexible person helping a small person hinting the bank being flexible enough to suit client’s need.
